Camels win pair against Gardner-Webb

Campbell set to play for a share of the Big South regular season title with win in series finale tomorrow morning

BUIES CREEK, N.C. - Campbell picked up a pair of wins in its doubleheader against Gardner-Webb Sunday at Amanda Littlejohn Stadium.

Campbell (33-16, 20-6) have a chance to claim a share of the Big South regular season title with a win tomorrow in the series finale. With the rest of the Big South finished playing, the Camels sit just one game behind USC Upstate and Longwood who both own a 21-6 record in the league.

Campbell 1, Gardner-Webb 0 (Game One)
Delaney McDilda's RBI double in the sixth inning was the difference as Campbell earned a 1-0 victory over Gardner-Webb to open the series.

The Runnin' Bulldogs threatened in the third inning as a single and two walks loaded the bases with one out. Kayla Howald entered into the circle in relief, forcing one batter to strike out and another to line out to end the inning.

The stalemate ended in the sixth as Tyra Parker earned a walk, moved to third following a groundout and flyout, and scored on McDilda's hit to left field.

Kayla Howald (4-4) tossed 4.2 innings of relief, striking out three batters. Georgeanna Barefoot got the start, throwing 2.1 innings and striking out two.

Andrea Lyon (8-15) took the loss for Gardner-Webb, throwing a complete game effort and only giving up one hit and one earned run.

Campbell 2, Gardner-Webb 1 (Game Two)
Isabella Smith held the Runnin' Bulldogs' bats at bay while Samantha Fontaine and Alyssa Henault drove in runs to give Campbell a 2-1 win over Gardner-Webb in the second game of the doubleheader.

The Camels plated their first run in the second as Alexa Pagano doubled to right field and touched home after Fontaine's RBI single through the left side.

Campbell answered Gardner-Webb's tying run in the third inning by scoring the eventual game-winning run in the fourth inning. Fontaine took a leadoff walk, Fredendall singled through the right side and a bunt by pinch hitter Lindsey Hunt loaded the bases for the Camels. Henault drove in the go-ahead run with her hit to centerfield.

Gardner-Webb managed to connect on one more hit the rest of the game coming in the sixth inning. However, a flyout double-play to Danielle Northrup in right field ended any remaining threat by the Runnin' Bulldogs.

Isabella Smith (14-7) pitched a complete game, giving up three hits, one walk and no earned runs in the outing.

Sydney Gilbert (5-10) took the loss for the Runnin' Bulldogs after allowing five hits and two earned runs.
