BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Will Thompson has signed an athletics grant-in-aid with Campbell University, head men's tennis coach
David Johnson announced. He joins Lukas Steffen of Cary, N.C., in the 2022 Fighting Camel recruiting class.
"We are pleased to have added both Lukas and Will," said Johnson, who is entering his 25th year in charge of the program. "Lukas has in recent months had some strong tournament results, winning one, while Will's high school team won both their conference and state championships. They know each other already from junior events which is a plus. Both guys are strong, tall, athletic players. I am confident they will add strength and depth to our team. With eight of our nine players returning, a 10-player squad will produce a very competitive environment."
Steffen and Thompson join a Fighting Camel program that has advanced to six of the last eight Big South Conference championship matches. The 2022 Campbell squad won the Big South regular season title and finished with a 16-6 overall record, 7-0 in the league, before falling in the league final.
