Camels fall to #25 Clemson 5-1

Box Score

CLEMSON, S.C. - Campbell held an early lead but ultimately fell to nationally-ranked No. 25 Clemson Sunday at Riggs Field.

Campbell moves to 0-1-1 on the year while Clemson improves to 1-0-1.

The Camels scored the opening goal of the game in the 3rd minute as Jessica Donald dribbled into the box and crossed to an approaching Jackie Richards. Richards' shot hit the left post and began spinning along the goal line where Donald tapped it in.

Clemson answered moments later on a goal from Renee Lyles in the 4th minute. The Tigers continued their attack, firing off five straight shots including two that deflected off the Campbell woodwork. Lyles added another goal in the 17th minute as her shot hit off the top bar of the goal and in.

The Tigers extended their lead with three goals following halftime as Emily Brough hit a right foot shot in the 49th minute and Caroline Conti flicked in a cross in the 72nd minute. Sydney Minarik added another goal in the final minute.

Campbell had a few scoring opportunities in the second half starting in the 53rd minute as Richards sent a through ball to Donald who fired off a shot off the Clemson keeper.

Reagan Baiotto was credited with a team save in the 55th minute, clearing the goal line following a Clemson header on frame. Baiotto's save led to a great counterattack as Richards' shot was deflected into the Tigers keeper.

Campbell returns against NC State on Thursday, Aug. 25. Kickoff from Dail Soccer Field in Raleigh is set for 7:00 p.m.
