Camels fall 3-0 at Liberty

LYNCHBURG, Va. - Liberty netted three first half goals to defeat Campbell 3-0 Sunday afternoon at Osborne Stadium.

Campbell falls to 0-3-1 on the season while the Lady Flames advance to 2-1-1.

Each of the Lady Flames three goals came on shots outside the 18-yard box starting with McKinley Burkett's goal in the 5th minute.

Allison Hanford added another score in the 27th minute as she received a pass from Meredith King, dribbled to the top of the box and fired a right foot shot in to the net. Khyla Porter scored from long distance for Liberty in the 42nd minute for the final margin.

The Camels conclude their road trip winless against a pair of teams that advanced to last season's NCAA postseason (Clemson, NC State) and a Liberty team that reached the NCAA Tournament in the spring 2020-21 season.

Kaleigh Backlund nearly put the Camels ahead just 54 seconds into the game as her shot hit off the top of the crossbar and away.

Backlund added another attempt in the 56th minute as her header off a corner kick just missed the right post.

In the 71st minute Jackie Richards split a double team and fired a shot on goal from distance as Liberty's goalkeeper made the save.

Liberty finished with an 8-5 edge in shots but both sides each at three attempts on goal. Campbell led with six corners and held the hosts with zero attempts. Ainsley Leja recorded three saves between the posts for the Lady Flames.

Campbell returns home on Thursday as it takes on Richmond in a 7:00 p.m. kickoff at Eakes Athletics Complex.
