BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Campbell University Athletics has announced that the popular Camel Run football game tradition experience for undergraduate students will return to Barker-Lane Stadium / Ed Gore Field for the 2022 season.
The tradition returns with the team's season and home opener against The Citadel on Thursday, September 1 (6:00 p.m.), and continue forward for all other home games moving forward.
Acting Director of Athletics
Hannah Bazemore shares that, "the Camel Run has been a popular part of our game day for a while now. During Covid, we were unable to offer this to our students, so we have three of four classes of undergraduates on campus have never had the chance to run on the field. As we were getting ready for this season, the thought that we should do this every game and not just the first game, and involve all of our undergraduates in the fun."
Bazemore, a two-time CU graduate, added that, "our hope is that as our students come to Barker-Lane and feel the energy of running onto the field, that their passion for being a Campbell Camel is magnified through the experience. Making Camel memories is what this is all about, and we are excited to build on this tradition starting on September 1."
Students will have the chance to sign up for the weekly Camel Runs, by class, in the weeks leading up to every home game. The runs will be limited to the first 100 students who sign up. Each student who runs on the field will receive a special memento from the Fighting Camel Club, noting the experience.
