BUIES CREEK – Campbell got back into the win column in a big way with a 3-0 win over Robert Morris in the first match of the Fairfield Inn & Suites Dunn Campbell Invitational. The Camels hit a blistering .442 in the match, the third highest hitting percentage in program history.
The win takes Campbell to 3-7 on the year while Robert Morris falls to 7-4.
After hitting a modest .306 in the first frame, Campbell caught fire to hit .500 in the second and .536 in the third. The third set featured 17 kills to just two errors. Four individual Camels hit over .400 on the evening.
The attack was led by
Lailah Green's 15 kills on just 20 attacks while committing zero errors. The .750 mark ties the second-highest individual hitting percentage in program history.
Melody Paige joined her in double figures with 14 kills hitting .522.
The first set was the closest of the night with Campbell grabbing a 25-21 win. Paige and
Gwen Wolkow both got out to fast starts with four kills to pace the offense. Wolkow would go on to finish with seven kills.
With the second set tied at 11-11, Campbell hit the gas to quickly jump to a nine-point lead at 21-12 and cruised to a 25-15 finish. Green poured in six kills in the set. Campbell collected 22 kills in the second set alone. Along with an ace and a block, 24 of the 25 points in the set came directly from Campbell rather than a RMU error.
The Fighting Camels were in quite a rhythm and kept it going through the third set with a dominant 25-6 showing. The six points allowed is the second fewest since the 25-point rally scoring era began in 2009. It was once again all Campbell as 17 kills, five aces, and a block accounted for 23 of the 25 set points. The Camels led 15-6 before scoring the final 10 points of the match, all via kill or ace.

Emily Mitter dished out 26 assists, a new career-high in a three-set match.
Claranne Fechter tallied 21 digs to lead the defensive effort that held the Colonials to hitting .141 on the night.
Campbell returns to action tomorrow for a doubleheader with NC Central at 11 am and The Citadel at 6 p.m. Both matches will be streamed on ESPN+.
