BUIES CREEK - Campbell opens up Big South play at Radford on Wednesday. Kickoff from Cupp Stadium is set for 7:00 p.m. and will be broadcast on ESPN+.
LAST TIME OUT: Campbell closed out the non-conference slate of its schedule on a four-game win streak after defeating UNCW 2-0 last Thursday. Jessica Donald and Kaleigh Backlund scored two first half goals while the Campbell defense earned its third shutout in the past four games.
SERIES HISTORY: Wednesday marks the 23rd all-time meeting between Campbell and Radford with the series even at 11-11-1. The Camels have claimed three straight wins in the series including back-to-back wins over the Highlanders in the semifinal round of the Big South Championship.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT: Radford owns a 4-1-3 record entering into Big South play. The Highlanders are outscoring foes 17-8 on the year, holding an 139-70 edge on shots and 65-19 advantage on corners. Junior defender Amy Swain leads the team with four goals and 11 points. Ben Sohrabi is in his 27th season as head coach of Radford with an all-time record of 277-188-43.
BIG SOUTH DOMINANCE: The Camels have compiled a 23-4-2 record in Big South play over the past three seasons and have won each of their last three conference openers.
BAUMBICK EARNS BIG SOUTH WEEKLY HONORS: Big South Preseason Defensive Player of the Year, Delaney Baumbick, earned conference defensive player of the week honors on September 19. Baumbick anchored a Campbell defense in a 2-0 shutout win over UNCW, limiting the Seahawks to two shots on goal. Baumbick has played a full 90 minutes in each of the Camels' past four wins, helping the defense to three shutouts in that span.
HEAD COACH JEFF GROSS (UMBC '93) is in his first season at Campbell and as a head coach. Gross spent the last eight seasons, including the last two as associate head coach, on the staff at UNC Greensboro. While at UNCG, Gross helped guide the Spartans to back-to-back Southern Conference championships and NCAA College Cup appearances in 2017 and 2018. Gross takes over a program that is coming off consecutive trips to the Big South Conference championship game as well as an appearance in the 2020-21 NCAA tournament.
$30K FOR 30 CAMPAIGN: Campbell University head coach Jeff Gross has announced the $30K for the 30th anniversary season campaign to benefit the Fighting Camels program. In recognition of the 30th anniversary of Campbell's first women's soccer season in 1992, the program is setting a fund-raising goal of $30,000 for a number of enhancements.
