Camels top Blue Hose in four sets

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Campbell remained unbeaten in conference play with a four-set victory over Presbyterian Friday night inside Gore Arena. Lailah Green led the efforts with a season-high 17 kills on the night.
 
The win takes Campbell to 7-8, 3-0 on the year while Presbyterian drops to 4-11, 0-3 in the Big South.
 
Green's 17 kills came on .382 hitting. The senior also chipped in three digs and three blocks on the evening.
 
The Camels got off to a blazing hot start jumping out 10-0 in the first set. Rode that lead to a 25-13 win in the first set as Green notched seven kills in the opening frame.
 
It was more of the same in the second frame with Campbell taking it 25-14. Tied at 6-6, Campbell reeled off a 6-0 run to take a comfortable lead in the set. Campbell's offense stayed hot by hitting .346 in the second set committing only three errors. 
 
Presbyterian held off elimination by taking a close third set 25-23. Trailing by five, the Blue Hose pieced together an 11-1 run to take a five-point lead of their own. The Camels fought back to take a lead at 22-21 but couldn't close out the set and the match. The offense lagged in the fame, hitting just .098.
 
Campbell righted the ship to take the match in the fourth set 25-17. Campbell committed a match-low two errors in the fourth set to close it out. PC threatened to force a fifth set with things tied at 16 all, but a clutch 6-0 run from the Camels all but ended it. The match was punctuated by an emphatic block from Aley Clent, one of her six on the night.
 
Emily Mitter dished out 24 assists with McKenna Sciacca adding 15 and Claranne Fechter adding nine. Six different Camels notched an assist on the evening. Fechter also collected a match-high 20 digs on the night.
 
Campbell returns to action tomorrow at 4 p.m. against Winthrop.
