HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. – Campbell saw both its five-match and 15-set win streaks snapped in a three-set loss at Hofstra Saturday afternoon. The Camels hit .088 for the day to suffer their first loss since Oct. 7.
The loss drops Campbell to 12-11, 9-4 on the year.
After winning its past 15 sets, the Camels had that streak snapped early with Hofstra taking the opening set 25-19. Campbell hit just .086 in the first and allowed the Pride to lead by as many as eight.
Hofstra won a closer second set at 25-23 to take a 2-0 lead on the Camels through two. The Camels held a late lead at 21-20 following a 3-0 burst capped by an
Aley Clent solo block, but couldn't hang on to even the score. Campbell was plagued by errors in the second set with seven attack errors to hit a flat .000 and a pair of service errors.
Campbell had a shot at extending the match and held a 22-21 lead in the third set. Hofstra managed to squash any chance of that quickly with four straight points on four straight kills to wrap up the day 25-22. The Camels committed an additional four service errors in the final set.
Melody Paige continued her torrid stretch with 11 kills on .529 hitting with three blocks.
Aley Clent had a team-high five blocks, and
McKenna Sciacca turned in a big double-double with 16 assists and 13 digs.
Campbell will look to get back in the win column tomorrow against the Pride at 1 p.m. on FloSports.
