Richmond defeats Camels 44-13

RICHMOND, VA. – Richmond forced three second half turnovers, outscoring visiting Campbell 34-6 after the halftime break, taking the 44-13 CAA contest at Robins Stadium.

Richmond (6-3, 5-1 CAA) won its fourth straight outing, holding Campbell (4-4, 3-3 CAA) to its lowest offensive output of the season.

The Spiders led 16-13 with 2:45 to go in the third quarter before three straight Campbell turnovers, including Wayne Galloway's 42-yards interception return for a TD, part of a 28-0 fourth quarter for Richmond.

Camden Coleman and Kyle Wickersham combined to complete 18-of-26 passes for the Spiders for 265 yards, with Wickersham connecting on two touchdown passes. Savon Smith rushed for a pair of scores, adding 51 yards on eight carries, while Jerry Garcia, Jr. hauled in two catches for 46 yards and a touchdown.

Tristan Wheeler led the UR defense with 12 tackles, including a sack with 1.5 stops for loss, adding a forced and recovered fumble. Marlem Louis also forced two fumbles, adding 2.0 sacks with five total tackles.

Hajj-Malik Williams completed 20-of-32 passes for the Camels for 173 yards and a touchdown with a season-high two interceptions, also rushing for 47 yards. VJ Wilkins snagged five passes for 55 yards, while Lamagea McDowell rushed for 35 yards on 12 carries.

Monchovia Gaffney tacked on eight tackles for CU, with Tre Moore and George Wilson adding sacks.

On the road for three of its final four regular season dates in 2023, Campbell will head to North Carolina on November 4 for its final nonconference outing, returning home for a November 11 date with top-10 ranked Delaware before rounding out the regular season at North Carolina A&T.
