Tar Heels top Camels 59-7

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Drake Maye tossed four touchdown passes and Omarion Hampton rushed for two more, leading North Carolina over visiting Campbell 59-7 on Saturday at Kenan Stadium.

UNC rebounded from a two game skid, improving to 7-2 on the year, while Campbell dipped to 4-5 in its final nonconference outing.

After Campbell knotted the game at 7-7 on its second drive, with QB Hajj-Malik Williams connecting with Chaney Fitzgerald for a 19-yard TD, the Tar Heels scored 52 unanswered points, including three second quarter touchdowns.

Maye completed 16-of-23 passes for 244 yards and four touchdowns while Conner Harrell went 4-for-4 for 71 yards and one touchdown for the Tar Heels. Hampton added 15 rushes for 144 yards and two scores while Devontez Walker caught two touchdowns for 41 yards. Bryson Nesbit added six receptions for 78 yards.

Cedric Gray and Power Echols led UNC with nine tackles each with Gray adding two sacks, three stops for a loss and a forced fumble. Marcus Allen had three tackles and an interception while Desmond Evans and Amare Campbell each had a sack.

Williams completed 25-of-37 passes for 185 yards with one touchdown, one interception and 85 yards on the ground to pace the Campbell offense, tossing nine completions to Ezeriah Anderson, a career-high, totaling 102 yards. Chaney Fitzgerald also caught six passes for 43 yards and a touchdown.

CJ Tillman led the Camels with 14 tackles with one sack while Ethan Quarshie recorded his first career sack.

The game marked Campbell's 11th all-time matchup with an FBS opponent, and second all-time against a Power 5 foe (at Wake Forest, 10/9/20).

Campbell returns to Barker-Lane Stadium next week for its final home game of 2023, hosting top-10 ranked Delaware before rounding out the regular season at North Carolina A&T.
