Blacksburg, Va. – Campbell received 27 points off its bench but fell to Virginia Tech 60-44 Wednesday night at Cassell Coliseum.
The Camels fall to 1-2 with the loss, while the Hokies improve to 2-1 with the win.
Elijah Walsh led Campbell with a career-high 10 points off the bench, and
Alex Kotov added nine as a reserve as well as Campbell's second leading scorer, each playing over 20 minutes in the contest.
Campbell shot 19 percent in the first half, but trailed by just 10 at the break.
Elijah Walsh led the Campbell offense with six points and was one of only three Camels with a first-half field goal. The Camels continued to get to the line as they did in the first two games of the year and went 7-8 at the stripe in the first 20.
Both team's leading scorers struggled in the first, as
Anthony Dell'Orso was held to just one point while VT's Sean Pedulla had only two.
Campbell fought back in the second half, working a once 19-point Hokie lead down to single digits with six minutes to play.
Jasin Sinani hauled in an offensive rebound and splashed a three moments later to cut the lead to eight with just under five minutes to go. Campbell then fell into an untimely scoring drought amid a 10-0 VT run to push the lead back to 18 shortly before the final horn.
Dell'Orso finished with six points and a team-high eight rebounds. Kotov was active on defense and tallied a team-high three steals.
VT's Lynn Kidd had a big night, scoring 24 and adding 15 redbounds as he controlled the interior. Hunter Catoor added 12 points on 4-9 from distance, three of the triples falling in the second half.
Campbell returns home for a three-game homestand in the Creek Classic next Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. Campbell opens the Creek Classic against NC Central Monday at 7 o'clock.
