Camels season ends in CAA semifinals

Towson, Md. - Campbell's inaugural season in the CAA came to an end Friday night in a four-set defeat to Delaware in the CAA semifinals.

Campbell finishes the season 17-12, 13-5. Delaware improves to 23-4, 15-3 and moves on to the CAA Championship match against Towson tomorrow night.

Chloe Cook saved some of her best for last, turning in 19 kills in the season finale, the second-most of her career. Four Camels logged 10+ digs led by 20 from Claranne Fechter. Three Camels notched double-doubles on the night. McKenna Sciacca had a monster double-double with 28 assists and 14 digs, while fellow setter Maddie Converse posted 22 and 13. Gwen Wolkow tallied 12 kills and 10 digs.

The service line had been a strong suit for the Camels of late but was an area of trouble tonight. Campbell went without an ace for just the second time this season along with seven service errors.

Campbell dropped the opening set 25-18. After holding Northeastern to hitting below zero yesterday, Delaware opened up the match by hitting .310 in the first frame. The Blue Hens troubled Campbell's attack up front by posting three blocks in the first as well. Chloe Cook paced the early CU attack with four kills.

The Camels stormed back in a big way in the second set, jumping ahead 13-3 in the early going and never looking back. The Blue Hens never shortened the deficit to less than seven the rest of the way while CU hit .567 as a team in the second set. Cook stayed hot with six more kills in the frame.

Both teams settled in by the third set to turn in a tight 25-22 set in favor of the Blue Hens. Delaware held a narrow lead most of the set, but saw that erased at 22-22 after a 4-0 Campbell run. Things went Delaware's way down the stretch, logging a kill, block, and ace to claim the set.

Similarly to the third set, Delaware held a narrow lead most of the way Campbell could never quite overtake. The Camels trailed by just one at 21-20, but weren't able to even the score. Chloe Cook appeared to have cut the lead back to two at 24-22, but Delaware saw a challenge overturned for match point at 25-21.

Fifth-year senior Melody Paige turned in 10 kills in the final match of her collegiate career, and finishes as one of Campbell's most decorated players of all time. The senior finishes her career with 505 career blocks, the only Camel to ever reach 500. She also holds the program hitting percentage record at .316 for her career, and is one of just 14 Camels to ever reach 1,000 career kills.
