BUIES CREEK – Eleven difference Camels scored on the night as Campbell beat Pfeiffer 88-59 Tuesday night at Gore Arena. Five of those 11 scored in double figures as Campbell tallied its largest point total of the season.
The win moves Campbell to 4-6, while Pfeiffer drops to 2-4 on the season.
Laurynas Vaistaras and
Anthony Dell'Orso led the Camels with 13 points apiece, though others were close behind. Six other players had at least six points on the night.
Alex Kotov led Campbell with six boards and Dell'Orso handed out a team-high four assists.
Campbell shot just 2-18 from downtown but managed to do plenty of work in the paint, scoring 60 points in the paint on the night. The defense forced a season-high 22 turnovers from the Falcons to lead to 30 points off turnovers and 17 fast-break points.
The Camels forced Pfeiffer into 14 first half turnovers, including a pair of shot clock violations and a 10-second backcourt violation to help CU take a 45-27 lead into the break. After a tough night at the line at Davidson, the Camels responded in a big way, knocking down their first 12 free throws of the night and going 15-17 at the stripe in the first half.
Laurynas Vaistaras led all scorers with 11 points at halftime, while
Tasos Cook added eight.
Campbell dominated on the interior in the second half, with all 18 made second-half field goals coming in the paint for 36 paint points. Along with seven made free throws, all 43 second-half points came in the paint or at the line.
CU led by as many as 30 in the second half en route to the 29 point victory.
The Camels return to action Thursday against St. Augustine's. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. and will once again be broadcast on FloHoops.
