Camel rally falls just short in 2OT

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – Ludovic Dufeal hit two free throws to force a second overtime and then blocked a potential game-winning three-pointer in the second extra period to lift Gardner-Webb to a 77-73 win over Campbell Saturday at Paul Porter Arena.

The Runnin' Bulldogs (15-11, 10-4) extended their win streak to seven games only after surviving a furious Campbell rally then coming out on top of two back-and-forth extra periods.

In a game that included 13 ties and nine lead changes, Campbell (11-15, 6-8) trailed by 14 early in the second half before drawing even at 51 on Anthony Dell'Orso's drive to the bucket with 5:27 left in regulation.  From that point, neither team led by more than three until Julien Soumaoro hit two free throws with 7.1 seconds to play for the final margin.

Ricky Clemons led the Camels with 18 points, plus four assists, while playing 45 minutes.  Dell'Orso added 17 points and eight rebounds over 47 minutes, while Joshua Lusane contributed 13 points off the bench.  Mason Grant added a career-high nine points, plus five rebounds, in 15 minutes.

Quest Aldridge scored a team-leading 16 points, including 4-of-8 threes, off the Gardner-Webb bench.  Kareem Reid finished with 15 points and 12 rebounds, while DQ Nicholas chipped in 13 points and Anthony Selden 11.

The Camels trailed 31-20 at the break after shooting just 29 percent (7-24) in the opening half.  However, a 10-0 burst early in the second period drew CU within striking distance.  Reid's second chance lay-in gave GWU a 59-57 lead with 34 seconds to play, but Dell'Orso tied the game with 14 seconds to go and the Camels shot 56 percent in the second half.

Campbell and Gardner-Webb swapped the lead six times and the score was knotted on four other occasions in the two OT periods.  Lucas Stieber's bucket with 1:19 to play in the second OT put the hosts in front 75-73 and the Camels missed their final three shots down the stretch.

Gardner-Webb finished the game 28-of-58 (.483) from the floor, 5-of-7 in the two OT periods, hit 6-of-21 threes (.286) and 15-of-28 (.536) from the line.  Campbell finished the day shooting 39 percent (25-of-64) overall, made 7-of-31 beyond the arc (.226) and 16-of-23 (.696) from the stripe.

Campbell hosts Charleston Southern Wednesday (7:00 p.m.) and Presbyterian next Saturday (Feb. 18) in its final two home games of the regular season.
