COLUMBIA, S.C. – Campbell defeated Delaware (4-4) and East Tennessee State (0-7) at the Carolina Classic on Saturday.
Game One – Campbell beat Delaware, 3-2
The Fighting Camels put up two runs in the first inning on an error and a passed ball. The third run came from an RBI double in the fifth from
Claudia Ware who went 2-4 with one RBI and a stolen base.
The Blue Hens scored one run in the first on a single from Brittney Mendoza. Chloe Blantz hit a sacrifice fly in the sixth to give Delaware their second run. Hanna Garber went 2-4 with one run for the Blue Hens.
Isabella Smith (4-2) earned the win tossing six innings allowing only two runs on five hits and striking out four.
Kayla Howald earned her first save of the season tallying two strikeouts in the seventh.
Emily Winburn (2-3) received the loss, pitching all seven innings allowing only one earned run on four hits and striking out eight.
Game Two – Campbell defeats East Tennessee State, 9-3
Pinch hit singles from
Erin Rafferty and
Lindsey Hunt helped the Camels score six runs on seven hits in the bottom half of the fourth. Five of Campbell's runs in the inning came with two outs.
Claudia Ware went 2-3 with an RBI and two runs and
Makayla McClain went 3-4 with three runs.
The Buccaneers scored three in the fourth beginning with a two-RBI double from Kassidy Dunn. Dunn went 2-3 with two RBIs and a run. Jessica Odom and Kaylee Higgins both went 2-3 as well.
Jaimee Hardy (1-0) earned the win after pitching 1.2 relief innings and
Kayla Howald earned the save after reentering in the seventh. Howald pitched four total innings allowing only two earned runs.
