COLUMBIA, S.C. – Campbell fell to Western Kentucky (5-5) and South Carolina (8-1) on the last day of the Carolina Classic on Sunday.
Game One – Western Kentucky beats Campbell, 3-0
The Fighting Camels were unable to get anything going as they were held to just two hits. The best chance to score for CU came from a one-out triple from
Tyra Parker in the third. Parker went 1-1 with a walk.
The Hilltoppers scored a run in the first inning off a Campbell Error, then Brylee Hage hit a two-RBI double in the fourth scoring the Toppers last two runs.
Kelsie Houchens (1-1) earned the win pitching a complete game shutout only allowing two hits and striking out seven.
Kayla Howald (0-1) received the loss, pitching six innings allowing just two earned runs and striking out three.
Game Two – Camels lose tight one to South Carolina, 2-1
The Camels opened the game scoring one in the first off an RBI single from
Makayla McClain, scoring
Tyra Parker. Parker finished the game 1-2 with a walk and a run.
In the bottom of the fourth, Campbell's Erin Raffertty made an excellent backhand play that kept a run from scoring. The Gamecocks left at least one runner on base each inning.
Emma Sellers gave the Gamecocks the lead in the sixth with a two-out RBI single through the left side just past a diving Camel. Marissa Gonzalez went 2-3 with a run for South Carolina.
The Gamecocks used four different pitchers, but Bailey Betenbaugh (3-1) earned the win pitching 2.1 innings striking out six and only allowing one hit. Donnie Gobourne earned the save striking out two in the seventh.
Isabella Smith (4-2) received the loss, throwing six innings allowing only two runs on six hits.
