Camels top Butler 25-6

BUIES CREEK – Campbell's bats came alive in a major way in a 25-6 win over Butler Saturday afternoon at Jim Perry Stadium. The Camels and Bulldogs were tied at 6-6 in the middle of the fifth before the floodgates opened and Campbell scored 19 runs across the next three frames.

The win takes Campbell to 5-1, with Butler falling to 2-4.

The Camels collected 18 hits on the day, but were also the beneficiaries of 13 walks, six hit batters, and five Bulldog errors. Jarrod Belbin tied a program record by working four walks during the game.

Campbell has now scored at least 20 runs in a game in each of the last four full seasons.

It was a slow start for Campbell as Butler jumped out to a 5-1 lead with a five-run second inning against Chance Daquila. But Daquila settled down and pitched through five innings, allowing six runs and striking out five to earn the win.

Tied 6-6 heading to the home half of the fifth, Bryce Arnold put the Camels ahead with a three-run shot to left. Winters drove in another, and an error plated a pair to cap the innings scoring.

The bulk of the damage was done with an 11-run seventh featuring two triples and five singles. Andy Schuldt, Drew Winters, Dalen Thompson, Arnold, Mitta, and Payton Howard all drove in runs in the inning, with a few more scoring on wild pitches.

The bottom of the order provided plenty of production today. Arnold finished a double shy of the cycle, going 3-7 with 5 RBI. Schuldt, hitting in the nine hole, went 3-5 as well to account for Campbell's only three-hit games. Eleven different Camels tallied a hit during the game.

Jackson Roberts turned in three shutout innings on the mound in relief, striking out two and walking one. George Ferguson got his first action of the season and worked a scoreless ninth.

The Camels will go for the sweep of Butler tomorrow at 1 p.m. That game will be an audio-only broadcast, available on The Varsity Network App or GoCamels.com.
