Camels defeat Detroit Mercy 9-1 in five innings

BUIES CREEK, N.C. - Campbell tied its season high for runs scored after defeating Detroit Mercy 9-1 in five innings Friday afternoon at Amanda Littlejohn Stadium.

Campbell, which picked up its first mercy-rule win of the season, improves to 14-8 on the season while Detroit Mercy falls to 1-12.

The Camels plated four runs in the first inning including an RBI single from Mariana Rodriguez, marking her first hit in a Campbell uniform.

Madilyn Gillespie added two more in the second on her single to right field while Delaney McDilda drove in another two the next inning with a deep double to left center that hit off the outfield wall.

Alyssa Henault, who finished with three hits, rounded out the scoring as her hit to shallow left dropped to bring in another two Camels across home plate.

The Titans, who were held to three hits, got on the board on an Alison Donaugh solo homer in the fourth.

Parker joined Henault with multiple hits, after going 2-for-2 with an RBI.

Kayla Howald (5-2) picked up the win in the circle for CU, allowing three hits, one earned run and striking out two. Olivia Warrington (0-7) took the loss for Detroit Mercy giving up 10 hits, five earned runs and three walks.

Campbell returns tomorrow to round out the Detroit Mercy series with a doubleheader starting at 12:00 p.m.
