BUIES CREEK, N.C. - Campbell picked up its first series sweep of the season after defeating Detroit Mercy twice in Saturday's doubleheader at Amanda Littlejohn Stadium.
Campbell improves to 16-8 on the season while Detroit Mercy falls to 1-14 overall.
Game One: Campbell 2, Detroit Mercy 1
Isabella Smith recorded 10 strikeouts and Campbell defeated Detroit Mercy 2-1 in the first game of the doubleheader Saturday.
The Titans scored first as Rusti Glenn drove in a run on a hit up the middle in the second. Campbell responded in the fifth as Alyssa Henault singled to right center, stole second and made it home on a RBI hit from Savannah White.
The Camels scored the go-ahead run in the sixth when Mariana Rodriguez placed a well-executed bunt towards the pitcher, allowing pinch-runner Charlie Montgomery to score from third.
Smith improved to 9-6 in the circle for Campbell after recording her fourth double-digit strikeout on the year. The Raleigh native allowed just one hit and walked three on the day.
Chloe Spitzer (1-4) took the loss for Detroit Mercy, giving up five hits and two earned runs.
Game Two: Campbell 9, Detroit Mercy 1 (5 inn.)
Jaimee Hardy's walk off two-run hit led Campbell to a 9-1 run-rule (5 inn.) win over Detroit Mercy in the series finale.
Campbell scored two in the second behind RBI doubles from Delaney McDilda and Tyra Parker. The Camels added four more runs in the third including an RBI triple from Allyiah Swiney and a two-run double that hit off the wall on the left field line by White.
Lindsey Hunt added her team-high 17th RBI in the fourth inning, setting up a walk-off situation for the Camels in the fifth.
With two on, including a speedy Parker at second, Hardy gave Campbell the run-rule victory as she connected on a hit up the middle of the field.
Detroit Mercy scored just one run in the top half of the fifth despite having the bases loaded with one out.
Kayla Howald (6-2) picked up her second win of the series, striking out a season-high seven with no earned runs.
Olivia Warrington (0-8) earned the loss for the Titans after giving up eight hits and four earned runs in three innings of work.
Campbell returns to action Wednesday at 5:00 p.m. as it hosts NC State.
