BUIES CREEK, N.C. - Isabella Smith tied her career-high with 12 strikeouts and Campbell defeated NC State 4-1 Wednesday evening at Amanda Littlejohn Stadium.
The Camels improved their record to 17-8 after defeating a power 5 foe for the second time this season while NC State falls to 7-17 overall.Â
Smith, who struck out the first eight batters she saw, gave up just one hit and no earned runs for the Camels. It also marked the fifth time this season the Raleigh native has earned double-digit strikeouts in a game.
Allyiah Swiney drove in two runs in the second, connecting on a base hit that went up the middle of the field and through the legs of NC State starting pitcher Aisha Weixlmann. A sacrifice fly from Savannah White added another run for the Camels in the inning.
The Wolfpack threatened in the sixth after loading the bases and scoring one run on a passed ball. Campbell responded in the bottom half of the inning as Makayla McClain's sacrifice fly scored a run.
Smith (10-6) struck out two of the final three batters she faced in the seventh to tie her career-high with 12 strikeouts. She previously picked up 12 strikeouts against Rider earlier this season and first did it in a against conference-foe Longwood last season.
