BUIES CREEK – Campbell's offense got started a little later than previous games, but it was still plenty to take the series with a 12-3 over Winthrop Saturday afternoon. Winthrop out-hit No. 19 Campbell on the day, but nine of Campbell's 11 went for extra bases with seven doubles and two home runs.
Nineteenth ranked Campbell now sits at 14-3, 2-0 in the league, while Winthrop falls to 9-11, 0-2. Campbell has now won all five of its weekend series in 2023.
Winthrop struck early with a run in the first on three straight singles, but a pair of baserunning miscues cut Eagle's potential rally short.
The score stayed 1-0 until the bottom of the fifth, when
Jarrod Belbin put Campbell on the board with a two-run blast to right.
Drew Winters followed up with a two-run single to add to the lead.
Drake Pierson broke the game open with a three-run blast the following inning to put Campbell up 8-3. The home run ties him for the team lead with seven.
Campbell added three more in the final at-bat for good measure on a pair of doubles from
Bryce Arnold and
Max Weller.
Every Campbell starter reached safely for the second straight day. The top of the order with Belbin and Pierson did the most damage, each logging two hits and three RBI.
Chance Daquila earned his fifth win in five starts on the mound, posting a line of 5.0 IP, 7 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 1 BB, 5 K.
For the second straight day another trio of bullpen arms combined to finish the game without a run.
Ty Cummings pitched two scoreless, followed by
Brendan Wright and
George Ferguson each tossing one inning each.
The Camels and Eagles will wrap up the series tomorrow at 2 p.m. That game will be streamed on ESPN+.
