BUIES CREEK, N.C. – After leading Campbell to a pair of wins last week,
Rasa Welsh and
Shae Fitzgerald have been named Big South lacrosse players of the week.
Welsh earned the league's offensive player of the week nod, while Fitzgerald collected her second defensive weekly honor this season following CU wins over George Mason, 10-7, and Old Dominion, 14-7.
Welsh registered a team-high 10 points on the week, posting five points in both outings. The junior dished out a season-high five assists at George Mason, adding three caused turnovers and a ground ball. Welsh then posted two goals and three more assists with two ground balls in Saturday's win over ODU.
Fitzgerald tallied six caused turnovers and five ground balls, helping the Camels hold both of its opponents to seven points. The senior caused five turnovers at George Mason, tying a CU single game record, and adding three ground balls. The New Market, Md. native then picked up two ground balls with another caused turnover against ODU. Over the two wins, the CU defense notched two shutout quarters, and allowed two or fewer goals in six of its eight quarters.
So far this season, Camels have been named Big South players of the week seven times in just four weeks.
Campbell will head to Clemson on Wednesday, March 8 (4:00 p.m.), before returning home for the first of a three game homestand on March 15, hosting Marist.
