NEW ORLEANS, LA. – Campbell used the long ball five times on Wednesday to power past Tulane 13-11 Wednesday afternoon.
Bryce Arnold homered twice and drove in five to lead the way for the offense.
Campbell improves to 10-2 with the win, while Tulane falls to 2-11 on the year. The Fighting Camels conclude their trip to Louisiana with a 4-1 record across five games at Louisiana and Tulane.
The Camels led 3-0 just three batters into the game thanks to a three-run blast from
Drake Pierson, his team-leading fifth of the year. Campbell has now scored in the first inning in seven games already this season.
Campbell put up runs in each of the first four innings.
Bryce Arnold and
Lawson Harrill hit back-to-back home runs in the third, the first set of back-to-back jacks on the year for Campbell.
Jarrod Belbin and
Logan Jordan each drove in runs in the fourth to put Campbell up 9-4 at the time.
Payton Howard connected for his first home run as a Camel in the sixth, and Arnold tagged his second of the day later the same frame.
Tulane climbed back into it with four runs in the eighth off Cam O'Brien to draw within four at 13-9.
Things got dicey again in the ninth as
Ty Cummings issued two walks and two hit batters. The bases were loaded with the tying run at first base, but Cummings shut the door with a three-pitch strikeout to end it.
Cummings was the last of six Campbell pitchers on the day.
Jackson Roberts made his first career start and tossed 1.2 innings allowing two runs and issuing five walks.
George Ferguson earned the win for his middle relief effort, pitching 2.1 scoreless innings, the longest outing of any Campbell pitcher in the game.
Six different Camels logged at least two hits during the contest, led by Arnold's third three-hit game of the year.
The Camels continue the road trip this weekend with three games at App State. First pitch on Friday is slated for 3 p.m. Inclement weather is in the forecast for Boone this weekend, so be sure to follow @GoCamelsBSB on social media for any potential schedule changes in the lead up to the weekend series.
