Campbell sweeps doubleheader against Presbyterian

BUIES CREEK, N.C. - Campbell picked up another Big South series as it defeated Presbyterian twice in doubleheader action Saturday at Amanda Littlejohn Stadium.

Winners of six-straight, Campbell improves to 25-9, 7-1 on the season. Presbyterian meanwhile dropped to 19-12, 0-4.

Game One: Campbell 8, Presbyterian 0 (5 inn.)

Campbell picked up its first shutout win of the season in a 8-0 (5 inn.) run-rule victory over Presbyterian.

Claudia Ware and Savannah White both went 2-for-2 with two RBI while four different Camels drove in runs.

Allyiah Swiney put the Camels on the board in the second inning as her sacrifice fly scored Madilyn Gillespie. Delaney McDilda drove in a second run on a hit that fell just fair down the right field line.

The Camels added another run in the third as a hit from Alyssa Henault missed the gloves of the Blue Hose pitcher and shortstop, scoring Tyra Parker from second base. Ware added another in the third on a sacrifice fly to left field.

Later on in the fifth inning, Gillespie recorded an RBI triple and then scored on Ware's second base hit of the day. After a triple from Swiney and a walk drawn by McDilda, White ended the game with a double over the centerfielder's head.

Campbell combined for 11 hits on the day and had all but one player in its lineup reach at least one base.

Isabella Smith (16-6) picked up her 16th win of the season, allowing just one hit and striking out seven.

Jenna Greene (8-7) took the loss in the circle for the Blue Hose after throwing 4.0 innings and giving up nine hits and five earned runs.

Game Two: Campbell 5, Presbyterian 3

Makayla McClain went 2-for-3 with two RBI and Campbell held off Presbyterian in the second game of the doubleheader to win 5-3.

McClain and Ware each recorded RBI singles in the first inning to give Campbell a 2-0 lead.

The Blue Hose knotted the game as Mallory Fletcher knocked a two-run homer in the second inning.

Campbell answered in the third starting with a McClain RBI triple. Gillespie provided a bunt to score McClain and then scored herself after the Blue Hose catcher made an errant throw that ended up deep in centerfield.

Smith picked up her third save of the season after the Blue Hose put two runners on with the go-ahead run at the plate.

Ware recorded her second multi-hit game of the day, going 2-for-3 in the contest.

Kayla Howald (8-3) picked up the win for Campbell, tossing 4.1 innings and recording three strikeouts.

Morgan Hess (6-4) earned the loss for Presbyterian, allowing seven hits and four earned runs.

Campbell returns tomorrow for the final game of the series against Presbyterian.
