Camels sweep Presbyterian with 8-0 win

BUIES CREEK, N.C. - Campbell picked up its second-straight Big South series sweep after defeating Presbyterian 8-0 (5 inn.) Sunday at Amanda Littlejohn Stadium.

Winners of seven straight and 13 of its last 14 games, Campbell improves to 26-9 overall and sit atop the conference standings with an 8-1 mark in Big South games. Presbyterian fell to 19-13 overall and 0-5 in conference play.

Alyssa Henault went 2-for-3 with two doubles and a RBI while Claudia Ware went 2-for-2 for Campbell who as a team combined for nine hits and saw all but one starter reach base safely.

Madilyn Gillespie, who has reached base safely in 10 straight games and owns a seven-game hit streak, scoring in the first inning connecting for a RBI single to right field.

The Camels added another run in the second off of Henault's RBI double.

Campbell put five runs on the board in the third starting with a two RBI hit from Delaney McDilda. Savannah White drove in another run in the next at bat.

Jaimee Hardy pinch hit and knocked a double off the wall in left center to score another pair of runs.

The Blue Hose put a runner on third in the second inning as Morgan Hess singled, advanced on a sacrifice bunt and moved to third following a fly out. The Camels ended the threat by forcing Ciara Hanson to a pop out in the next at bat. Afterwards, Campbell did not allow a Presbyterian base runner across the final three innings.

Isabella Smith and Kayla Howald combined for the shutout. Smith (17-6), who picked up her 17th win of the season, tossed 4.0 innings where she allowed two hits and struck out five. Howald entered in the fifth and threw just nine pitches to retire the side and end the game.

Morgan Hess (6-4) took the loss for the Blue Hose after allowing eight hits and eight earned runs.

Campbell hits the road for another Big South series at Charleston Southern starting Friday.
