BUIES CREEK – No. 15 Campbell remained unbeaten through three weekends of Big South play with a 9-1 win Sunday afternoon to complete the sweep of Charleston Southern. The Fighting Camels have now won 10 of their last 11 games.
The Camels improve to 22-4, 9-0 in the league, while CSU falls to 12-16, 4-5.
Jarrod Belbin got the offense started as early as possible, lifting a leadoff home run to right, Campbell's first leadoff blast of the season. He paved the way to a four-run first inning.
The Camels scored in each of the first four frames, capitalizing on CSU miscues and scoring four runs on wild pitches and errors.
Max Weller just missed a two-run homer, settling for an RBI double off the top of the wall in the fourth to put Campbell ahead 8-0.
The offense provided plenty of cushion for the Campbell pitching staff. Four Camels combined to scatter just four hits and one run in the eighth.
Cameron O'Brien started on the hill and turned in his longest outing of the year, tossing 4.0 scoreless innings and striking out four.
Cade Boxrucker earned the win for three scoreless, and hitless relief innings, also striking out four. CSU got on the board with an infield single in the eighth inning off
Jeremy Wiegman.
Ernie Day worked the ninth to close it out and complete the sweep.
Max Weller and
Lawson Harrill each had two hits on the day, as Harrill's average climbed to .436.
The Camels head to Durham Tuesday evening for a midweek matchup with Duke at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park. First pitch is set for 6 p.m. and will be streamed on ACC Network Extra.
