BUIES CREEK, N.C. - Campbell split its doubleheader at Charleston Southern Friday at the CSU Softball Complex. The Camels won the first game, 9-2, before falling 8-4 in the second game.
Campbell moves to 27-10 overall and 9-2 in Big South play while the Buccaneers stand at 15-20 overall and 4-6 in conference.
Game One: Campbell 9, Charleston Southern 2
Campbell recorded a season-high 15 hits and earned a 9-2 victory over Charleston Southern in the series opener.
Delaney McDilda went 3-for-3 with four RBI and a walk, Claudia Ware went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and Madilyn Gillespie extended her hitting streak to eight games after going 3-for-4 with two runs and a RBI.
Makayla McClain hit a two-run homer in the third to make it 4-2. Allyiah Swiney hit another home run in the fourth while an error allowed pinch runner Kayla Thomas to score to put the Camels ahead 6-2.
Gillespie drove in one run in the seventh while McDilda recorded her second two-RBI hit of the game.
Isabella Smith (17-6) pitched a complete game for the Camels, allowing five hits, two earned runs and posting two strikeouts.
Annah Junge (13-6) also pitched a complete game for the Buccaneers, eight earned runs and striking out eight.
Game Two: Charleston Southern 8, Campbell 4
Charleston Southern snapped Campbell's eight game win streak with an 8-4 victory in the second game of the doubleheader.
Campbell jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning thanks to a bases-clearing double by Ware. The Buccaneers answered in the bottom half of the inning with a three-run home run from Harper Schoeneweis to even the score.
Charleston Southern took the lead in the second on Weslin Jones RBI single until the Camels answered by tying the game again in the fifth on a well executed double-steal by Ware and McClain.
The Buccaneers responded by scoring four runs in the bottom half of the fifth on a two RBI single from Madelyne Lee and a two-run homer from Gracie Prince.
Kayla Howald (8-4) took the loss for the Camels while Riley Lauffer (2-14) picked up the win for the Bucs.
Campbell returns tomorrow against Charleston Southern for the rubber match at noon.
