BUIES CREEK, N.C. - Campbell opened its series against Radford with a 7-1 win Friday night at Amanda Littlejohn Stadium.

The Camels, who have won its last eight Big South series openers, improve to 31-13 overall and 12-3 in conference. Radford falls to 13-27 and 3-10.

Campbell scored three in the second inning starting with a Samantha Fontaine RBI triple. Tyra Parker drove in Fontaine in the next at-bat with a hit through the right side while a ground-rule double from Claudia Ware scored another.

Radford got one run back in the third as Abby Wilson recorded an RBI ground-rule double of her own. The Camels responded by scoring a run following a Radford throwing error, a wild pitch and an Allyiah Swiney RBI single.

The Highlanders put runners on second and third in the first inning but a full-extension leaping catch by Ware in centerfield prevented any runs from scoring.

Isabella Smith (21-8) picked up the win in the circle, tossing the first four innings and allowing three hits and one run with three strikeouts. Kayla Howald pitched the final three innings, allowing just one hit and striking out three.

Chloe Greene (3-7) took the loss for the Highlanders after allowing three earned runs off seven hits in five innings of work.

Campbell closes out the series with a doubleheader on Sunday set to start at 1 PM. Fans are encouraged to arrive early for the Senior Day ceremony happening prior to first pitch.
