2023 CAMMYS nominations set

Annual award celebration set for Thursday evening

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Nominations for the 2023 CAMMYS, the annual awards celebration that showcases the best of Campbell University athletics for the previous year, are complete.
 
Established in 2011 under the guidance of former Athletics Director Bob Roller, the CAMMYS is led by the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, which consists of student-athletes from CU's 21 NCAA Division I intercollegiate athletics programs.
 
Campbell student-athletes, coaches, staff, and special guests will gather Thursday evening in the Oscar Harris Student Union ballroom for a banquet and multimedia awards show to celebrate the accomplishments of the last 12 months.

Female Newcomer of the Year
Kailey Elliott – Freshman/Track & Field - Big South Indoor Freshman of the Year
Gianni Boone – Freshman/Basketball – Big South All-Freshman team
Angelica Ragazzoni – Freshman/Swimming - set 50 and 200 backstroke school records
Isabella Hahne – Freshman/Golf - won the Sea Best Intercollegiate, Big South Freshman of the Year
Delaney Nicolaus – Freshman/Lacrosse - 2-time Big South freshman of the week, 3d on team goals scored
Aley Clent – Freshman/Volleyball – Big South All-Freshman team - best hitting percentage by a freshman in school history, 3rd-most blocks in Big South
 
Male Newcomer of the Year
Anthony Dell'Orso – Freshman/Basketball - Big South Freshman of the Year
Myles Rowser – Freshman/Football - Freshman All-American
Adrien Gameiro -Freshman/Soccer – Big South All-Freshman team
Henric Bjelke – Golf/Freshman – 2022 Big South Freshman of the Year
Caleb Dowden – Football/Senior Transfer - school record 10 field goals, made 39-of-40 extra points
 
Female Individual Performance of the Year
Meredith Ashburn - Swimming - broke 4 school records at conference championship: 50 free, 100 free, 50 fly, and 400 free relay
Chastity Pickett – Track & Field - Most Valuable Athlete at Big South Indoor Championship - winning the 60m, 220m and 60m hurdles, broke three school records, and helped 4x400m relay team take 3rd place
Reagan Biotto - Soccer - Scored 3 goals vs. USC Upstate to give Campbell sole possession of 1st place in Big South standings
Isabella Hahne - Golf - won Sea Best Intercollegiate
Sam Bischoff - Lacrosse - 8 goal, 2 assist game vs. Stetson
Isabella Smith - Softball - threw 199 pitches in 12 innings, giving up only one run and six hits in win over Charlotte 2-1
 
Male Individual Performance of the Year
C.J. McBride - Track & Field - Most Outstanding Performer and Most Valuable Athlete at Big South Indoor Championships - won high jump, triple jump, and 3rd in long jump
Taye Ghidali - Wrestling - won SoCon Heavyweight Championship, undefeated on the season in conference matches
Dominique Alexander – Track & Field - ran a 20.66 time in the 200 meters, top-3 time in Big South history and top-25 in the world this season
Henrik Lilja - won 2022 Big South Stroke Play Championship, Big South Golfer of the Year
 
Female Team Performance of the Year
Softball - won 2022 Big South Conference tournament for 2nd-straight season
Golf - Won 2022 Big South Championship for a 6th-consecutive time
Soccer - clinched regular season title and undefeated record in league play with 8-0 win vs. Longwood
Lacrosse - defeated the defending champs High Point 17-14 to move into 1st place in the 2022 Big South standings
Volleyball - swept High Point in the season series to ensure CU's first-ever regular season title
 
Male Team Performance of the Year
Baseball - 2022 BSC tournament - after losing game one, won four games in two days to capture tournament title
Basketball - 2023 BSC tournament - won three games in four days, upsetting the second and third seeds to advance to the Championship Game
Soccer - defeated No. 12 UNCG 1-0, handing the Spartans their only loss of the regular season
Wrestling – defeated No. 23 Maryland 21-14 for CU's second win over a Big Ten Conference team of the season
Football - defeated NC Central, the eventual HBCU National Champions, 48-18

Chastity Pickett - Track - BSC Indoor Championship Most Valuable Athlete, 3 first-place finishes
Jessica Donald - Women's Soccer – Big South Offensive Player of the Year, Scholar Athlete of the Year, 8 goals, 6 assists
Sam Bishoff - Women's Lacrosse - 2022 Big South Midfielder of the Year, 55 goals, 14 assists
Claranne Fechter - Volleyball – Big South Defensive Player of the Year
Christabel Ezumah - Women's Basketball – Big South leader, top 25 in nation blocks per game, 1st-team all-conference
 
Outstanding Male Athlete of the Year
CJ McBride - Track and Field - BSC Indoor Most Outstanding Performer and Most Valuable Athlete
Taye Ghiladali - Wrestling - SoCon Heavyweight Champion
Mike Edwards - Football - Offensive Lineman All-American
Tyler Young - Men's Soccer – Big South Offensive Player of the Year, Selected #36 in MLS draft, highest pick in CU soccer history, 16th in the nation in assists
Zach Neto - Baseball – 2022 Big South Player of the Year, 1st-team All-American, 13th overall MLB draft pick, Top 10 in the nation batting avg., on-base percentage, slugging
Henrik Lilja - Men's Golf - 2022 BSC Golfer and Student-Athlete of the Year

Men's Tennis - 2022 regular season champions, undefeated in league
Men's Track & Field - most medalists and champions at 2023 Big South Indoor Championship
Baseball - 2022 Big South Conference (4th straight) and tournament champions
Men's Soccer - regular season title for a second consecutive year
Women's Soccer - regular season title for a second consecutive year, undefeated in league history
Women's Golf - 2022 Big South Champions for a sixth straight year
Volleyball – regular season champions for the first time in program history
Softball – 2022 regular season and tournament champions for the second consecutive year
