Mercer holds off Camels 14-11

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Maddi Koury's three second half points helped Mercer hold off Campbell 14-11 during Saturday's 2023 regular season finale at Barker-Lane Stadium.

The Bears claimed the Big South's regular season championship and earned the top seed in next week's conference tournament, improving to 15-2 overall and finishing 9-0 in league games. Campbell, meanwhile, dropped to 11-6 on the season and 7-2 in Big South games.

After back to back Campbell goals from Joslin Hanbury and Olivia Ohlmann broke a four score Mercer run, the Camels and Bears took a 7-7 deadlock into the halftime break.

Out of the half, Mercer posted three of the first four strikes of the third period that included a goal and an assist from Koury. With Mercer up 12-9, Rasa Welsh and Lexi Goff goals, both assisted by Hanbury, brought CU back within one with 4:01 to play.

Mercer answered 53 seconds later with a Kileigh Casey goal, and Koury's second score of the day capped off the 14-11 win.

Koury tallied a game-high five points on two goals and three assists, adding a caused turnover and a ground ball, while Shannon Urey and Gabby DiVirgilio both notched three goals apiece for the Bears.
