Camels earn six podiums to open Big South Championships

ROCK HILL, S.C. - Six Camels earned podiums and several set qualifying times in preliminary events as Campbell wrapped up the first day of action at the Big South Outdoor Championships.

After the first day of action the Campbell women rank first with 30 points, ahead of High Point in second with 28 and Charleston Southern in third with 15. The Campbell men are currently in second place with 47 points behind High Point in first with 87. Charleston Southern rounds out the top men's teams with 24 points.

IN THE FIELD
Omar Ibrahim started the day strong with a third place mark of 54.24m (177'11") in the men's hammer. Zachary Stein-Drago (51.15m), Timon Edelen (48.64m) and Evan Brock (43.64m) all set personal bests in the hammer.

Nicholas Veynovich earned the first gold for Campbell as he captured first overall in the men's javelin with a mark of 62.07m (203' 8"). Stein-Drago joined him on the podium with a third place mark of 59.65m (195' 8").

CJ McBride took third place in the men's long jump with a mark of 7.18m (23' 6.75").

Autumn Judd completed the day for the Camels in the field by taking third place in the women's hammer with a mark of 47.73m (156' 7").

ON THE TRACK
Chastity Pickett led the way in the women's 400m hurdles prelims, earning a spot in the event finals on Friday with a top qualifying time of 58.60. Both Andre Douglas and Andre Leslie qualified for the men's 400m hurdles finals, also on Friday.

The freshman pair of Jaidyn Ramsey and Kailey Elliott qualified for the finals of the women's 200m after finishing with top eight times.

A trio of Camels, including Dominique Alexander (20.92), Jamel Miller (20.95) and Andre Bent (21.11), all qualified for the finals of the 200m after finishing 1-2-3 in the prelims. Jamal Miller also earned a qualifying time of 21.46 along with Rashun Fountain who won his heat with a time of 21.88.

Dorcus Ewoi rounded out the day on the track, qualifying for the women's 1500m finals with a time of 4:48.10.
