Four home runs power No. 13 Campbell past Elon

BUIES CREEK – No. 13 Campbell earned the series split with a 5-2 win over Elon Wednesday night at Jim Perry Stadium. The Fighting Camels belted four home runs in the first four innings to build a lead they would never relinquish.

The Camels' second win of the week improves them to 33-10, while Elon drops to 27-17.

Drake Pierson got things started with a two-run shot to straight away center in the first, his 12th home run of the season and first since April 1.

Elon got on the board with a two-out RBI in the second, which would turn out to be all the offense for the Phoenix on the night.

Chandler Riley answered that run with a solo shot in the home half, the first of two home runs on the night for Riley. Drew Winters joined the home run barrage in the fourth, with Riley going deep for the second time just two batters later to put the Camels up 5-1.

Jake Murray was dominant again in just his second start of the season, once again setting new career highs in innings and strikeouts. The lefty struck out two batters each inning from the third to the sixth. Murray finished with a line of 5.2 IP, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 9 K.

Jackson Roberts was called on with two away in the sixth and stuck around to finish the job and earn the first save of his career. Roberts tossed the final 3.1, allowing just one run in the ninth and striking out four.

Campbell pitching has now struck out at least 12 in five of the last six games.

Drew Winters and Chandler Riley each had two-hit days, with both of Riley's having left the yard. Riley doubled his season home run total during the game after entering the game with just two through the previous 33 games.

Campbell heads on the road this weekend for a Big South series at UNC Asheville. That series gets underway Frday at 5 p.m. and will be streamed on ESPN+.
