FARMVILLE, VA. - Campbell clinched a share of its third-straight Big South regular season title after splitting its doubleheader against Longwood, Saturday at Lancer Field.
Campbell moves to 38-14 overall and 15-4 in conference play while Longwood stands at 28-19 and 14-5 in conference. The winner of tomorrow's game will take the top seed for next week's Big South Championship in Radford, Va.
Game One: Campbell 4, Longwood 3
Campbell earned a share of its third-straight Big South regular season crown with a 4-3 win over Longwood in the first game of the doubleheader.
The Camels scored four runs in the fifth inning, starting with a two-RBI single from Mckayla McClain. Delaney McDilda followed with another RBI single up the middle while Mariana Rodriguez added another run with a sacrifice fly to the shortstop.
The Lancers answered in the sixth, scoring on a fielder's choice and a two-run home run by Maryanna Guy.
Longwood put the tying run at third in the seventh with one out as Isabella Smith forced a pop-out and groundout to end the game.
McDilda finished 2-for-4 with one RBI while McClain finished 1-for-3 with two RBI and one run.
Claudia Ware, who finished 1-for-3 with one run, connected for her 200th career hit with a single in the top of the seventh.
Smith (26-8) picked up her 26th win of the season, tying the program single-season wins record set by Brittany Stanley in 2008. In a complete game effort, Smith allowed four hits, no earned runs and struck out three.
Maggie Chapin (6-9) took the loss for the Lancers, allowing four earned runs of six hits in 4.2 innings.
Game Two: Longwood 6, Campbell 1
Longwood recorded three two-run home runs to earn a 6-1 win over Campbell in the second game of the doubleheader.
Lauren Taylor and Maryanna Guy both recorded two-run homers in the first inning while Emily Vinson added another in the fourth.
The Camels got one back in the fifth inning on a RBI single by Savannah White, who finished 2-for-2.
Kayla Howald (11-5) took the loss in the circle but recorded her 200th career strikeout. Jaimee Hardy tossed three no-hit innings in relief, striking out three batters.
Er'ron Burton (12-7) picked up a complete game win for the Lancers, allowing five hits and striking out seven.
Campbell returns closes out the regular season against Longwood Sunday at 1 PM.
