Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Camels fall 2-0 to Monarchs

NORFOLK, Va. – Campbell women's soccer dropped a hard-fought battle against Old Dominion, falling 2-0 at the ODU Soccer Complex early Sunday evening.

The Camels now sit at 0-1-1, while the Monarchs improved to 2-0 on the year.

The Camels led 3-2 on corner kicks in the first half but were unable to record a shot on goal. The Monarchs had two shots on target, both easily corralled by goalkeeper JLo Varada.

The stalemate was broken in the 61st minute when Andrea Balcazar Algarin headed in a cross from Anna Torslov at the back post. The goal was the 13th shot of the game for the Monarchs, and it was their third effort on goal.

ODU added one more in the 75th minute when Ece Turkoglu curled one into the top-right corner off her left foot from outside the box.

Campbell was unable to create much pressure themselves, recording only four shots, with none of them finding the frame.

QUOTABLE
Head Coach Jeff Gross
"We knew coming in to this one it would be a good test. We answered that call fairly well in the first half, but not enough over the course of the whole match. We had to give our newest players an opportunity to learn from the game. So, we played a lot of them because two games in four days is a lot. Some made a case; some still have to grow. The upperclassmen are also growing in their roles. They have to lead effectively, and that also grows with opportunity. We made some progress, and we will keep grinding to find more going forward."
