Last Time Out: Campbell defeated reigning Big South Conference Tournament Champions Radford, 2-1, with a last-minute goal from Amber Liston. Liston began the scoring, assisting Alyssa Tucker in the 23rd minute. This is the second time in the first three games the duo has linked up for the score. The Highlanders equalized in the 81st minute, when an inadvertent hand ball by Campbell in the box led to a penalty shot. Alexeis Kirnos sent the ball past Sierra Vance to make the score 1-1. With barely a minute to play, Campbell was awarded a free kick near midfield, and Riley Terrill played it into the box. After it took a deflection off a Radford defender, Liston fired it into the net from outside the box.Â
Series History: The Camels have faced the Pirates 18 times in the series history, holding a 5-12-1 record. The last time the teams played was in 2021, when ECU came away with a 1-0 victory in Greenville. The Camels last defeated ECU on Aug. 17, 2012, earning a 2-1 overtime win. The Pirates hold a +10-goal differential (39-29) in the overall series. This will be the first time since 2017 the Pirates will make the trip to Buies Creek to take on the Camels.Â
Scouting The Opponent: The East Carolina Pirates also sit at 1-1-1 early in the season, earning their first win of the season Thursday against George Mason. Four different players scored for the Pirates in their 4-0 victory. ECU began the season with a 2-0 loss against Florida and a 0-0 tie against North Florida. They currently hold a .267 shot-on-goal percentage. Last season, ECU finished the season with a record of 8-8-3, earning the No. 5 seed in the AAC Tournament before falling to Memphis in overtime in the first round. The Pirates are without last season's leading goal-scorer (6) and points leader (13), Carsen Parker. No other returner had more than five points. They are led by second-year head coach Gary Higgins. Prior to ECU, Higgins became the all-time winningest coach at Lenoir-Rhyne (83-31-13).Â
