Greenville, N.C. – The Camels dropped the opener of the Pirate Invitational in straight sets to East Carolina Thursday night at Minges Coliseum. The loss drops Campbell to 0-4 to begin the 2023 campaign.
 
The opening set was tight the whole way with ECU taking it 26-24. Campbell had its chances to take the set after reeling off a 5-0 run to get to set point at 24-22, but ECU answered with four in a row of its own to take the first and go up 1-0.
 
ECU capitalized on that momentum and ran away with the second set taking it 25-14. The Pirates hit a strong .500 in the set with 15 kills and just one error.
 
The Pirates finished off the match with a 25-19 third set. Campbell fell in a 9-4 hole early on and was never able to climb back into the set, never cutting it closer than four.
 
Abbie Tuyo tallied a new career-high with 10 kills on the night to lead the Camel attack. Maddie Converse dished out a career-high 24 assists as well. Claranne Fechter led all players with 14 digs.
 
Campbell returns to action tomorrow at 4 o'clock against App State.
