BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Two-time Campbell graduate and longtime Fighting Camel supporter Kim Johnson has been presented the inaugural Orange Tie Award in recognition of his exceptional commitment to the University and its athletics program.
Johnson received the honor at the Orange Tie Gala, which was held this summer at the Raleigh Marriott City Center to celebrate Campbell's move to the Coastal Athletic Association and the program's success over the years.
In addition to honoring Mr. Johnson with the Orange Tie Award, the top Campbell Athletics supporters who were invited to attend the exclusive event enjoyed a preview of the Fighting Camels' new branding initiative, were introduced to the re-launch of the Fighting Camel Club and had the opportunity to participate in a silent of auction of Campbell Athletics experiences and memorabilia. The evening began with a reception before dinner, and the program also included an interview with head softball coach Trena Prater.
"Kim and his family's generosity, support and love for this athletic department is amazing," said Director of Athletics Hannah Bazemore. "His past, present and future giving is transformational to Campbell. Kim is also always in his seat for every home event here at Campbell, and as an alum there is no one better to receive our inaugural Orange Tie Award."
Mr. Johnson is a past president of the Campbell University National Alumni Association Board of Directors, past chairman of the School of Business Dean's Advisory Council, and past chairman of Campbell's Trust Education Foundation among other responsibilities. He is currently serving on the Lundy-Fetterman School of Business Advisory Council and on the Presidential Board of Advisors. This month, Johnson assumed the role of Chairperson for the Athletic Director's Advisory Board.
He retired as Executive Vice President of Branch Banking & Trust Company in Wilson, N.C., having served the bank for 43 and half years. He earned his Bachelor of Business Administration degree in Trust Management in 1975 and his MBA focusing in Management in 1980. Johnson was an Honor Graduate in the National Graduate Trust School for the American Bankers Association at Northwestern University. He also attended The Bank Executive Program at the Fuqua School of Business at Duke University. He was a certified trust and financial advisor, a Series 65 investment advisor, and a licensed North Carolina real estate broker. He was designated as Who's Who among students in colleges and universities and among the outstanding Young Men in America. In 2017, Kim was honored with the Distinguished Alumni award from Campbell University in recognition of his service and accomplishments.
A community volunteer, Johnson has served numerous civic and professional organizations as president, vice president or member of the board. Some of these organizations include the United Way, the American Red Cross, the Boy Scouts of America, the Kiwanis Club, North Carolina Biblical Recorder, North Carolina Community Foundation, North Carolina Lung Association, North Carolina Bankers Association, and the North Carolina Bar Association.
An avid supporter of Campbell Athletics, Johnson supports numerous Fighting Camel programs, encouraging coaches, athletic staff, student-athletes, and upon occasion, holding referees to the highest of standards. He gives selflessly of his time, resources, and passion to empower the greater Campbell community to lead with purpose on and off the field.
Johnson is a member of the First Baptist Church of Wilson where he is active on the Board of Deacons and various committees. He is married to the former Karen Oliver. They are the parents of two sons, Mark and Robert.
