BUIES CREEK, N.C. – After an offensive outburst in a week two win at The Citadel, Campbell's
Hajj-Malik Williams and
VJ Wilkins have earned CAA Football Player of the Week honors.
Williams took home CAA Co-Offensive Player of the Week, accounting for five touchdowns in Campbell's 56-7 victory, while Wilkins was tabbed Freshman of the Week, finding the end zone for a second straight week.
New Hampshire running back Dylan Laube shared CAA Offensive Player of the Week honors with Williams, while Monmouth linebacker Jake Brown was named Defensive Player of the Week, and William & Mary kicker Caden Bonoffski collected Special Teams Player of the Week accolades.
Williams passed for 348 yards, his third career 300-yard game, completing 25-of-33 passes with three touchdowns, connecting with eight different receivers. The QB tacked on 45 yards rushing and two touchdowns on eight carries.
Led by Williams, who piloted Campbell to touchdowns on its first three drives and eight of its 10 total offensive possessions, the Camels rolled up 611 yards of total offense, third most in a single game and a school record against an NCAA Division I opponent. Williams' 348 passing yards are the sixth most ever total in a single game, while the team added 263 yards rushing. Campbell also surpassed 50 points for the eighth time in its modern history (since 2008).
Through the first two games of 2023, the Atlanta native has completed 47 of his 58 passes (81.03%) for 579 yards and four touchdowns.
Wilkins hauled in a game-high seven catches for 73 yards to go along with the TD against the Bulldogs. The redshirt freshman's 14 yard TD catch punctuated a speedy five play, 75 yard opening drive that took just 1:44.
Through two career games, Wilkins owns 122 yards receiving on 11 catches with two touchdowns. The Pfafftown, N.C. native is also averaging 19.5 yards per kick return as CU's primary return man.
The Camels (1-1, 0-1 CAA) return to CAA play this week, heading to Monmouth on September 16 in a matchup of former Big South rivals. Campbell returns home on September 23, hosting Elon in another CAA contest.
