Melody Paige had a record-setting day but it wasn't enough for the Camels as they fell to Delaware in four sets. The match marked Campbell's first-ever CAA contest.
It was a career-day for Paige, setting a pair of Campbell records during the match. First, Paige set Campbell's all-time blocks record during the second set. Paige, a fifth-year senior from Lancaster, Calif., now has 444 career blocks. Her new mark tops Cindy Oppenheimer's record that has stood since 1998. Paige is also Campbell's all-time blocks/set leader as of the beginning of this season.
Paige then hit .824 on the day with 14 kills with zero errors on just 17 attacks. That .824 mark is the highest in program history with a minimum of 10 attacks in a match.
Campbell got off to a hot start hitting a.414 as a team to take the first set 25-16.
Despite being more efficient than the Blue Hens on the day, Campbell was plagued by service errors committing a season-high 16 on the afternoon.
The Camels hit .344 in the third set but fell 25-21 as Delaware hit an even better .444 in the set with 14 kills and just two errors.
Delaware finished off the match in the fourth set taking it 25-22. The Camels reeled off four straight points late and threatened to extend the match, but Lani Mason's 14
th kill of the day wrapped up the match for Delaware.
Chloe Cook and
Aley Clent joined Paige in double figure kills, and
Maddie Converse led the way with 41 assists.
The Camels and Blue Hens face off again tomorrow at 1 p.m.
