BUIES CREEK, N.C. – The Fighting Camels are back at Eakes this Sunday to take on UNCW in the 17th edition of the Cape Fear River Derby.
Campbell (2-5-4, 0-3-3 CAA) returns home after being on the road for two games last week. The team had a bye from league play on Thursday.
The Seahawks (3-6-1, 2-2-1 CAA) are also coming off a bye on Thursday. In last week's games, both Campbell and UNCW came away with a tie on Thursday and a 1-goal loss on Sunday.
The matchup is the Gabby's Angels Game for the Camels, as they honor and celebrate Campbell superfan Gabby Hernandez.

Series History: There have been 16 contests in the "Cape Fear River Derby". The Fighting Camels have earned four wins against the Seahawks, with the most recent being a 2-0 victory last season. The largest margin of victory in the series came in 1994, when Campbell defeated UNCW 9-0 in the very first matchup between the programs. However, UNCW controls the goal margin throughout the series, 26-20.
Scouting the Opponent: The Seahawks come to Buies Creek with a 3-6-1 record and hold a 2-2-1 record in conference play. Like Campbell, they enter the match on a week-long break, having not played on the 28th. Their last match was a 2-1 defeat to Hofstra, and UNCW has yet to win a match this season away from home (0-3-1). They are currently sixth in the conference standings, the final spot eligible for postseason play. Chris Neal leads the Seahawks in his sixth season, and he has racked up 47 wins at the helm. He was named the 2021 CAA Coach of the Year.
Last Time Out: The Fighting Camels were outshot 18-5 in a 1-0 defeat to Charleston on the road. Campbell did have the advantage in corner kicks, 6-5. Sage Dougherty and Kaleigh Backlund recorded the two shots on goal for the Camels.
First Year in CAA: Campbell begins its first season as a member of the Coastal Athletic Association after spending the previous 12 seasons as a member of the Big South. In that time, the Camels amassed 73 conference wins and won the conference tournament in 2020-21.

Back-to-back Regular Season Champs: Campbell finished the 2022 regular season unbeaten in conference play with a 7-0-2 record and earned back-to-back conference regular season titles for the first time in program history. It marked the third time in program history the Camels finished the conference regular season slate unbeaten having previously achieved it in the A-Sun conference in 1995 (8-0-2) and 2004 (7-0-3).

Homefield Advantage: Campbell is 28-6-5 in home games dating back to the 2019 season, outscoring opponents 108-34 in that span. The Camels finished the 2022 season unbeaten at home with a 7-0-1 record.
