WILMINGTON, N.C. - Three Seahawks scored 15 points or more as UNCW led wire-to-wire and defeated Campbell 69-58 Friday night at Trask Coliseum.
Campbell falls to 8-8 overall and 1-4 in CAA play while UNCW improves to 3-13 overall and 1-4 in league games.
The Seahawks jumped out to a 14-4 lead in the first quarter and led 34-27 at the half as Mingaile Urmuleviciute scored 11 of her 15 points in the first half.
Brittany Staves, who led the Camels with 15 points in 28 minutes off the bench, cut the deficit to 45-44 in the final seconds of the third period before the Seahawks answered with a 9-0 run into the final quarter.
Staves made five of her first six shots and added five rebounds, three assists, one block and a steal. Gianni Boone added a season-high 12 points off the bench while Gemma Nunez dished out a career-best seven assists.
Taylor Henderson led all scorers with 17 points for UNCW while Evan Miller added 15 points and Sammy Ackles provided six points and a game-high 10 rebounds.
UNCW shot 51.0 percent (25-of-49) from the field marking the highest shooting percentage by a Campbell opponent all season. CU shot 34.5 percent (19-of-55) from the floor, 24.0 percent (6-of-25) from three and made 13-of-18 shots from the charity stripe.
Both Shy Tuelle and Christabel Ezumah became the 24th and 25th players in program history to surpass 500 rebounds. Tuelle is now one of 12 players in program history to surpass 1,200 points and 500 boards and the first since Taya Bolden (2016-22).
Campbell returns to action back at home on Sunday as it hosts first-place Stony Brook in a 2:00 PM tip-off.
