KNOXVILLE, TENN. –
Mira Berglund and
Taylah Ellems are tied for 13th place and Campbell is sixth on the team leader board after Sunday's opening round of the Mercedez Benz Intercollegiate, hosted by the University of Tennessee at Cherokee Country Club.
Miami leads the 13-team event at 2-over 286, one shot ahead of host Tennessee, UCF and Memphis. Campbell heads into the second round at 7-over par (191), three shots behind fifth-place Chattanooga.
Berglund was 3-over through 14 holes before making back-to-back birdies and finishing the day at one-over 72 on the par-71 Donald Ross design. Ellems also finished the day at 1-over after making five birdies and playing the back nine 1-under.
Alicia Olsson is tied for 22nd at 2-over 73, while Isabelle Hahne is T28 (74) and
Fanni Gronlund T40 (76) in the 73-golfer field.
No. 49 Campbell is one of five schools ranked among the country's top 50 in the 13-team field along with UCF (35), Tennessee (37) and Kent State (48). Four other participants – Miami (55), Charlotte (83), East Carolina (84) and Middle Tennessee (89) – are in the nation's top 100.
The 54-hole event continues through Tuesday at the 1907 Donald Ross design. Campbell will be paired with Memphis and Chattanooga and start the second round from the first tee at 10:20 a.m. Monday. Live scoring is available at
