BUIES CREEK, N.C. – College of Charleston scored three goals in the first 10 minutes on their way to a 4-0 win over Campbell Sunday afternoon at Eakes Athletics Complex.
The loss knocked the Camels out of postseason contention, and their season ends with a 6-9-3 record (4-6 CAA). The Cougars clinched their spot in the CAA Tournament and improved to 11-3-5 (4-2-4 CAA).
Charleston struck quickly, as Avery Nassetta scored just 1:21 into the game off an assist by Faith Slimmer. Emma Wennar scored at the 6:00 mark, and Shea Vidovic ended the barrage with her goal in the eighth minute.
The early onslaught proved too much to overcome for the Camels, who were unable to record a shot in the first half.
Campbell created more pressure in the second half against Charleston. Kaleigh Backlund led the team with two shots, and Natalie Jamison and Tyler Baughan each put a shot on frame.
JLo Varada end the game with seven saves, settling in after the early goals.
The Cougars added one more in the 71st minute, as Slimmer added to her earlier assist with a goal of her own, assisted by Bubbles Dever.
Charleston (sixth seed) clinched their spot in the CAA Tournament today along with Delaware (fifth seed). They join (1) Monmouth, (2) Elon, (3) Stony Brook and (4) Hofstra as tournament participants. Â
