Camels fall in season finale

BUIES CREEK - The Fighting Camels fell in the 2024 season finale 3-0 to Stony Brook Saturday afternoon in Gore Arena. Campbell finishes the season 6-22, 4-14 in CAA play.

The win was enough for Stony Brook to punch a ticket to the CAA tournament, finishing the season at 16-12, 9-9 in the CAA.

The Camels honored three seniors playing their final games in the Black and Orange: Emily Campe, Riley Dean, and Maggie Salisbury.

Campbell dropped a close first set 25-22. Emily Campe and Gwen Wolkow each tallied four kills in the opener. Maggie Salisbury also got off to a fast  start with three quick kills and a block in the first five points.

The Camels had a chance to draw even in the second set with a couple of set points at 24-22, but couldn't finish the job. Stony Brook responded with four straight points thanks to a CU serving error and three straight kills to steal the set at 26-24 and go up 2-0.

Stony Brook captured the momentum from the second set to jump out to an 8-2 lead in the final set. Campbell didn't go quietly and worked to cut the deficit to one point, but never led and eventually fell 25-19.

Wolkow led the offense with nine kills. Campe had eight and Salisbury had five in their final games for Campbell. Riley Dean logged a team-high 18 digs in her final outing. Maddie Converse handed out a team-high 14 assists.
