Camels set for first visit to Virginia

BUIES CREEK - The Fighting Camels hit the road for the first time this season to face Virginia in Charlottesville Wednesday evening. The game will be the season opener for Virginia.

Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. and will be available on ACCNX, or with the audio call on The Varsity Network App or GoCamels.com.

Last Time Out
Campbell opened the campaign with a 96-49 win over Pfeiffer. The game marked Campbell's most points in a season opener since 2018, and the most in regulation in an opener since 2014.

The Camels outscored the Falcons 26-2 off turnovers, 56-18 in the paint, and 22-1 on the fast break. Bragi Gudmundsson led all scorers with 15 points, as part of the 60 scored off the bench for Campbell. Three players finished in double figures, and five more scored eight points.

Series History
Wednesday will mark the first meeting between the Camels and Cavaliers, with the sides having never met on the hardwood.

Campbell is 1-37 against current ACC members since CU turned to Division I. The lone victory came over NC State on Dec. 4, 1993, a 72-69 victory.

Scouting The Cavaliers
Virginia posted a 23-11, 13-7 record in the ACC last season and reached the NCAA Tournament. As one of the last four in, UVA fell to Colorado State as part of the First Four in Dayton, Ohio.

Isaac McNeely is UVA's top returning scorer, putting up 12.3 ppg last year thanks to shooting 44% from distance.

Virginia is coached by interim head coach Ron Sanchez following long-time head coach Tony Bennett's recent retirement. Sanchez served 11 years under Tony Bennett, including last season as associate head coach. Sanchez has head coaching experience, having been at the helm for Charlotte for five seasons from 2018-23.

Looking Ahead
Campbell returns home to host Saint Francis on Nov. 10 at 2 p.m. That game will be broadcast on FloCollege.
