Campbell pulls away from Bethune-Cookman 64-50

BUIES CREEK, N.C. - Campbell pulled away from Bethune-Cookman in the fourth quarter and picked up a 64-50 win Monday afternoon at Gore Arena.

Gianni Boone led a balanced attack for the Camels (7-5) finishing with 14 points. Gemma Nunez and Ciara Alexander added 12 points each while Courtney Dahlquist and Jasmine Felton each scored nine.

The Camels led the Wildcats (3-9) 30-29 after a first half that featured seven lead changes and three ties. 

Bethune-Cookman opened the third quarter on a 8-1 run and earned its largest lead of the day at 37-31 on a three from Janessa Kelley.

Campbell answered with an 8-2 run, tying the game on a layup by Felton. Both sides traded baskets down the stretch of the third quarter with Felton knocking down a three and giving the Camels the lead at the end of the period with a fast break assist to Olivia Tucker.

CU forced five turnovers and held Bethune-Cookman to 2-of-13 shooting in the fourth quarter. Gemma Nunez knocked down two three-pointers and added two free throws as part of a 12-0 run for the Camels who led by as many as 15 in the final period.

Asianae Nicholson recorded a double-double with 10 points and 10 boards for Bethune-Cookman while Shomari Phillips and Kelley each added 10 points. 

Campbell shot 41.3 percent (26-of-63) from the floor while the Wildcats shot 39.2 percent (20-of-51) overall and 28.6 percent (4-of-14) from three.

The Camels scored 23 points off 22 turnovers and outscored the Wildcats 44-26 in the paint and 21-3 on fast breaks. CU also held a slight 37-36 edge on the boards and finished the game with 15 offensive rebounds.

Campbell returns to action Friday in its CAA opener at UNCW.
