Dell'Orso's game winner lifts Camels past Elon

ELON, N.C. – Anthony Dell'Orso drove coast-to-coast and scooped home a layup with 1.5 seconds remaining to give Campbell the 69-67 win at Elon Thursday night. The sophomore rebounded Elon's potential go-ahead free throw before taking it 94 feet the other way for the win.

Campbell completed the season sweep of Elon with the win and improves to 11-11, 5-4 in the CAA. Elon drops to 9-13, 2-7.

The big shot was the second game-winner of Dell'Orso's career, having knocked down a floater with 1.3 seconds to go against Radford in last year's Big South semifinal game.

Dell'Orso finished with his fifth double-double of the season with 17 points and 10 rebounds. He stuffed the stat sheet with three assists, two steals, and two blocks on his line as well. Jasin Sinani added 15 and knocked down three triples on the night. Elijah Walsh and Laurynas Vaistaras both finished in double figures with 14 and 10, respectively.

The first half was tight, but the Camels were able to open things up a little bit with a 7-0 run to close the half and carry a six-point lead into the locker room. Campbell connected five times from beyond the arc in the first as Elon stayed in the zone defense they played in the first matchup as well. Dell'Orso led all scorers with 11 points at the break.

The Camels came out hot in the second half and pushed the lead to as many as 12 with 12:47 to play. After going up 10 with 4:41 to go, Campbell hit a an untimely scoring drought for the next 4:40, going without a point until the eventual game winner.

Elon had an opportunity to take the lead with Max Mackinnon at the stripe shooting two, trailing by one. The sophomore made the first, but came up short on the second, leading to the run-out and game winner for Campbell.

Campbell is yet to lose back-to-back games in league play and gets back to over .500 against CAA competition.

The Camels will stay on the road for the weekend, heading to UNCW Saturday night at 7 p.m. The Seahawks picked up a win tonight at Charleston before heading to Trask Coliseum for the showdown on Saturday night. That one will be streamed on FloHoops.
