Campbell falls to Syracuse, late rally comes up short against Bucknell

CONWAY, S.C. - Campbell played their second and third games of the season on Saturday at the Kickin' Chicken Classic, losing to Syracuse 13-3 and Bucknell 4-3. 
 
Game One – Campbell falls to Syracuse, 13-3
 
Syracuse was hot offensively all throughout the game. They started out in the first inning with Angel Jasso hitting a triple and bringing in Makenzie Foster.​​ Taylor Posner reached on a Campbell fielding error and Jasso scored. Laila Morales-Alves grounded out to second, bringing in Posner and bringing the score to 3-0. 

Campbell's Sterling Hairston hit a two run double in the fifth inning to put the Camels on the board, with the score being 13-2. Makayla McClain then singled to left field bringing in Hairston. The game ended on a strikeout. 

Julianna Verni picked up the win for Syracuse pitching four innings and allowing three earned runs. 

Isabella Smith was credited with the loss, pitching 1.1 innings, allowing four earned runs on three hits. Freshman Megan Gregory made her first circle appearance pitching 1.2 innings. Katherine Serna also entered the circle for the first time this season as a Camel. Kayla Howald pitched one inning as well, allowing no runs and two hits. 
 
Game Two – Late Camel comeback comes up short to Bucknell, 4-3

Bucknell's Zoie Smith scored the first run of the game when she hit a home run to right center in the third inning. Brooke Popella hit a three run double, bringing the score to 4-0 in the fifth inning. 
 
Campbell struggled offensively until the seventh inning when Tristin Doster hit a two run RBI, bringing in Alyssa Henault and McClain. Lindsay Lumsden then hit an RBI single, advancing Doster and bringing in Stacey Deputy. The game ended with a fly out, and two left on base. 
 
The Camels committed one error in the game. Hannah Leierer was credited with the loss, pitching 4.1 innings, giving up three earned runs on five hits. Gregory came in and pitched one inning and allowed no hits or runs. 

Savannah Jones picked up the win for Bucknell pitching 6.2 innings, only allowing three earned runs and recording five strikeouts.

The Camels take on Syracuse at 1:30 p.m. and Coastal Carolina at 3:45 p.m. tomorrow for the final day at the Kickin' Chicken Classic. Live stats will be available for both games, and the Coastal game will be streamed on ESPN+.
