Camels fall to NC State, top Connecticut at first day of Marucci Classic

RALEIGH, N.C. - Campbell played its first two games of the Marucci Classic, falling to NC State 4-3 and winning against Connecticut 8-5. 
 
Game One – Campbell falls to NC State, 4-3

The game was tied 0-0 until the sixth inning when NC State freshman Tori Ensley hit a triple, and then scored on an error. MaKayla Marbury tripled to right field bringing in two runs, and Alaina Smith reached on an error, giving NC State their fourth and final run. 


The Camels came alive in the seventh inning after Charlie Montgomery hit a double to center, bringing in Lindsay Lumsden and Allyiah Swiney. Alyssa Henault then hit an RBI single that brought in Montgomery, bringing the Camels to three runs. 

Aisha Weixlmann (2-1) took the win for NC State, pitching seven innings and allowing five hits, three earned runs and five strikeouts. 

Megan Gregory (0-2) was credited with the loss, pitching six innings and allowing six hits, zero earned runs and two strikeouts. 
 
Game Two – Camels top Connecticut, 8-5

The Camels started out hot in the first inning, with Stacey Deputy hitting a home run bringing in Tyra Parker and Henault. Tristin Doster then hit a triple down the right field line, and scored on the throw. Connecticut's catcher Grace Jenkins answered by hitting a double to left and Lexi Hastings scoring. 


In the second inning Deputy hit a sac fly to right, bringing in Henault. In the third, Lumsden hit her first college home run to left field. In the fourth inning, Doster singled to center field and Henault scored. 

The Huskies scored two runs in the fifth and sixth inning, followed by another Campbell run in the seventh inning after Montgomery singled to left center and Lumsden scored. 

Payton Kinney (0-1) was credited with the loss after allowing four hits and four earned runs. Hope Jenkins pitched three innings and allowed five hits and two earned runs, and Sydnee Koosh pitched four innings allowing three hits and one earned run. 

Isabella Smith (1-2) was credited with the win after pitching five innings and allowing four hits, four earned runs and seven strikeouts. Kayla Howald also pitched two innings allowing one hit, no earned runs and one strikeout.

The Camels will face North Dakota State at 5:00 PM and Connecticut again at 7:30 PM on February 17 at the Marucci Classic.
